Helping people connect their values to the causes that matter to them is a privilege for me. Currently, I am employed full-time as the Senior Development Officer at Openhouse, which is changing aging in America by providing a loving community to LGBT older adults.
As a professional fundraiser, I draw on twenty-years of nonprofit management experience and for-profit business ownership. I have worked for agencies with budgets from $250,000 to $8,000,000, in staff positions ranging from Development Manager, Communications Director to Development Director. As a volunteer Board member, I have helped lead five nonprofit agencies, including a multi-million dollar arts funder, trade association for nonprofit fundraisers, and a nationally recognized mental health counseling center.
Additionally, I have started several for-profit businesses, including a national trade association for film and video distributors, community newspaper, events production company and successful restaurant. As a result of my varied background, I bring strong skills in collaborative management, strategic planning, marketing communications and community relations to all my work.
The common thread throughout my career has been a desire to bring people together. Working across race, class, age, gender, sexuality and ability, I work to foster a world that that embraces people for who they are and encourage them to live their dreams. Today I do the work I do, because at its core, fundraising is about building transformative relationships between people and institutions.
Born and raised in Minnesota, I moved to San Francisco a decade ago, looking for a community that reflected these values. Today I assist nonprofits with their fundraising needs to insure that the dream that brought so many of us to the Bay Area is kept alive.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, I received my Certification in Fundraising Management (CFRM) from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. For my work I have received Certificates of Merit from the California State Senate and Assembly. I am a member the Development Executives Roundtable (DER) and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
